Project update: Catholic Advocacy Service in Darwin
The Catholic Advocacy Service (CAS) is an organizational unit within the Catholic Diocese of Darwin established in 2014 by OM NT Group, for the more vulnerable and marginalized sectors of our society. It is aimed to promote social justice and to defend the sanctity of life and human dignity.
The main project undertaken by the CAS in 2017 and 2018 is to assist Fr Raass in preparing and articulating a strategic plan targeted at fostering the wellbeing of the Indigenous people around Alice Springs. Further, several Members will also assist assist Father Raass in drafting a strategic plan for the Parish in Alice Springs to submit to the Bishop.
The strategic plan will include the elaboration of culturally oriented projects – such as a permanent historical exhibition on the history of Eastern & Central Arrernte Catholic Indigenous and white people – and activities aimed at developing the gifts and talents of the Alice Springs’ community.
On the 31st of Juanuray 2018, the CAS will be presenting substantial submissions to the Department of the Attorney-General and Justice on potental future amendements to the NT 1993 Anti -Discrimination Act. Our submissions are made in respect of those specific amendements which would negatively impact on religious freedom.
